Katrina’s Angels has produced great results this past year! Among the Community Projects we have done:

 

Schools, Libraries and Community Centers Drive:

 

Anticipating a need, back in July, Katrina’s Angels began a drive to secure school supplies, uniforms, and books for our clients. As word got around, it became apparent that many schools had students in dire need. Resource Director Karen Iwicki relentlessly emailed over 450 schools that had offered help to hurricane victims last year, and got the process started by requesting a little help. In addition, we are now registered with IAM Foundation (www.iamfoundation.org) and First Book National Book bank, both of whom have steered donations of books our way. By sending books and other learning materials, Katrina’s Angels is doing their part to fight illiteracy.

NAVTA Associates            

Sent 2 boxes elementary books, teacher editions to Fifth Ward Middle School, Bogalusa, LA and Sun Civic Center; Also sent multiple copies of 25 books each (100 books total) Windows on Literacy books for English Language Learners for grade K-1. Subjects include math, science, and social studies.

Sent 4 Classroom in a Box Teaching Kits (complete sets of teaching supplies) to 1st grade Chalmette teacher Kim Guidry, who shared these school supplies with 3 other are teachers.

 

 

Dawn Hanson – ( IAM Foundation)

Sent 21 books for children and teenagers & 31 books for adults (a few on were on health & the majority on business/success issues) to the Restoration and Revival Center in Moss Point, MS for distribution to area clients at the Thanksgiving Dinner. Also sent a set of Anthony Robbins Personal Power II cassettes (12 "volumes" in the set).Sent to Moss Point, MS

 

 

First Book National Book Bank with Funai and Disney  

Sent Three Learning Libraries, each of which included a 9 inch TV/VCR combo and 20 learning tapes for kids 0-6 years old to the St. Bernard Project, St.Bernard Parish, LA

Sent 21 boxes of new books (892) to Community Coordinator Andrea Garland in New Orleans, LA for distribution to area clients. Also, Andrea took the following books to the empty library at L E Rabouin High School in New Orleans:

Danata Leenas Ringwood, NJ

The Ringwood School District sent 1 entire pallet of school supplies to the Charlotte Hyatt Elementary School in Moss Point, MS

 

 

Brookwood Middle School Genoa City, WI

Offered a school partnership to aid Ocean Springs Middle School, Ocean Springs, MS, two or 3 times this school year

 

               

Another Community Project we are doing is:

 

Thanksgiving Dinner for 500

at the Restoration and Revival Center

in Moss Point, MS.

 

 

 

 

Katrina’s Angels has been working hard to secure both monetary and in-kind donations. We expect everyone to go home with a box full of donated supplies, books, clothes, etc based on their registered needs. Has sent 6-8 computers with peripherals, a fax machine, and an overhead projector for the Restoration & Revival Center in Moss Point, MS (They have also donated a printer/copier for the Village of Sun, LA mayor’s office.) Also donated 150 gallons of stain and paint to be used in our rebuilds, especially Moss Point Emergency Shelter

Donated 2 boxes of baby toys, school supplies and toiletries, and two gift cards sent to the Restoration & Revival Center in Moss Point, MS for distribution at the Thanksgiving Dinner

 

               

Critters For Katrina’s Kids

Has supplied all our clients with children and all of our points of distribution with Critters: stuffed animals and stuffed toys. For instance, Community Coordinator Jody Revader of Hammond, LA distributed boxes of Critters to Alaya's Early Learning  Center Positive Steps Resource Center, and A Safe Haven Day Care Center. Most of the kids there are from St. Bernard Parish and Chalmette, LA. Also, many stuffed animals were donated to Brian Clement who rides in every Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans. Instead

of throwing beads, he will be throwing stuffed toys out to the children

Community Coordinator Donna McDermott and her entire neighborhood collected a truck full of supplies: new comforters, linens, TV’s, a boom box, etc and distributed it to Katrina’s Angels clients in Little Rock, AR

Donated thousands of dollars worth of designer fabrics, much of it sent to the gulf for sewing projects/groups to create their own plus-size underwear, curtains, comforters, etc.
